Nevsky prospect, St Petersburg



Nevsky prospect is one of the most important avenues in St. Petersburg. The main life of the city is concentrated here. The avenue commences from the embankment of the mot beautiful rive in St.Petersburg- Neva.

Nevsky prospect runs for thee miles. It begins at the Admiralty and ends at the Alexandre-Nevsky Lauvra. Many buildings dating back to the 18-th century are located on the avenue alongside with modern hoses and other buildings.

The largest department store in the city is located on the left side of Nevsky prospect. The store was built in 1765-1776 and called “Gostinny Dvor”. The store is very popular among locals and tourist, most of whom want to visit the shop just to see it architecture.

The right side of Nevsky prospect is always full of tourists as there you can find one of the most luxurious hotels in the whole city. The Grand Hotel Europe is one of the best five star hotels in St. Petersburg.

The largest bookstore “The House of Books” in St. Petersburg is situated in the corner of Nevsky prospect. Here you can find different kinds of books in many languages.

On the left side you can see a marvelous palace, which was built in the 18-th century and belonged to former count Stroganov.

Perhaps the best way to explore this beautiful city is on one of Russian river crusies. You can also find a good deal on St Petersburg flights and spend a great weekend in the Venice of North. St Petersburg hotels are not very expensive too.

Museums in St Petersburg

The museum of St.Petersbug history Peter and Paul Fortress was founded by Russian tsar Peter the Great in 1703. But this fortress is not the only place to visit. On the grounds of the fortress you can visit the Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral, as well as many other interesting sights located there.

The Central Naval Museum is situated in the building of the Stock Exchange, which was constructed in the beginning of the 19-th century. The museum numbers more than 800,000 items, including the old boat of Peter the Great, which is considered “the grandfather of Russian Navy”.

Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad is a memorial dedicated to the 900-days defense of the city during World War II. It consists of an obelisk, sculptural composition, and an underground Memorial Hall. Many original documents and items of that time are represented in the Hall.

The museum of the Arctic and Antarctic is the only museum in the world that is dedicated to the nature of the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as the history of expeditions there.

The Zoological museum is one of the largest in the world. More than 17 million species are represented there.
